MELBOURNE, VICTORIA - ProActive Services has launched the P3M3 module of their web-based Governance Assessment Portal. Building on the current ITIL® and CobiT Business Alignment, Software Asset Management, and ISO/IEC 20000 modules, the addition of the Portfolio, Programme & Project Management assessment module provides users with a well-rounded suite of modules that can be accessed separately, or in conjunction, to assess all aspects of IT Governance.

This module contains the official P3M3 self-assessment questions as defined by both APMG and the Cabinet Office. The Cabinet Office took over the ownership and responsibility of the Best Management Practice portfolio from the OGC in 2010. This portfolio incorporates practices such as P3M3 and ITIL, amongst others.

“In order to be licensed to use Crown Copyright material, such as the P3M3 self-assessment questions, you must show that such usage is adding significant value", said Bob Philipson, Managing Director of ProActive Services.

“In this case, the value-add is that the module not only provides insight into maturity, but provides key input and recommendations to use in a P3M3 improvement programme.”

The P3M3 module of the Governance Assessment Portal provides an online, user friendly method that makes it easy to complete the self-assessment questions, thereby providing maturity scores and the ability to track maturity over a period of time.

Over and above the score, the P3M3 module generates a Maturity Statement for each process and process perspective and provides recommendations for improvement. These are based on both the specific and generic attributes documented in the Official Introduction and Guide to P3M3, published by the Cabinet Office. A maturity score is provided for each of Portfolio, Programme and Project Management, using the seven P3M3 process perspectives and the rules governing how the scores are determined is governed by the self assessment guidelines.

The P3M3 module can be used stand-alone, or in conjunction with other Portal modules, such as ITIL®. For example, P3M3 is particularly relevant in Service Transition. Low maturity levels in Service Transition can suggest low maturity in Project Management in P3M3. Being able to assess the two together provides a much more comprehensive and informed understanding of maturity and how it can be improved. The P3M3 assessment approach has been adopted by the Australian Federal Government, Queensland state Government and many organisations throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Following is a quote from a senior project manager at a large service provider:-

“…. we need to demonstrate the maturity of our Project Management capability to our customers and we found ProActive’s P3M3 Assessment module to be an excellent tool for measuring our maturity as well as for providing advice on how we could improve.”

“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this module as a low cost, web-based, "Software-as-a-service", remarked Bob Philipson. “In addition, to have specific recommendations that can be easily exported to MS Word or Excel allows users to quickly and easily add the data to reports that identify maturity scores, highlight where gaps exist, and use the specific recommendations to generate tasks as part of an improvement plan.”
